Calla

Although you probably know it as Calla Lily, this flower used to be called the Ethiopian Arum.

The Calla Lily is a welcome guest when it comes to festive occasions. The flower is perfect for striking bouquets, corsages and decorations but also likes to celebrate in a vase in your home.

It comes from a region that stretches from South Africa to Malawi where it grows in swamps. The areas where it grows can sometimes be boggy and other times arid. The Calla Lily is not only beautiful but strong as well.

  •   Care tips florists
    • Callas can be stored in the cold storage at 5-8° C. At too low temperatures and too long-lasting storage, the flower can turn vitreous.
    • Place the flower in clean water, in a clean vase or bucket.
    • The recommendation is to place the flowers on a chlorine pill or on bulb flower nutrition with a low amount of water to prevent the stems from getting slimy.
    • Do not cut the stems back into the green: the stems will get slimy faster then.
    • Before placing it on the vase, drain properly and cut off properly.
    • Remove slimy stems immediately, since it is very contagious there.
    • Be careful that the flowers cannot become moist due to a high atmospheric humidity (RH) or by condensation in the cellophane.
    • Be careful not to damage or bump the bracts, so grab the flowers at the stem.
  •   Care tips consumers
    • Remove the packing as soon as possible.
    • If you would like to cut the flowers, only cut into the white part of the stalk of the flower.
    • Place the flowers in a clean, disinfected vase. A drop of chlorine can be added to avoid the growth of bacteria.
    • Fill the vase with a small amount of water: 1 inch of water will suffice.
